Hi, Crew, friends,
With the help of Google, I have created this blog for all us during the upcoming transatlantic passage. I will write in it daily, although I expect we will only be able to post from ports. Feel free to use as you are interested.
Best wishes,
Captain Rick (not to be confused with Captain Ron)

Subject: Transatlantic crossing
Had an idea re Morpheus itinerary – (don't you just love me suggesting what you should do with your boat?) Anyway... Jan 2010: sail from USA to Bimini to Turks to Cuba. Cuba to BVI's for PK V(a) in Feb. Feb/Mar: From BVI, transatlantic sail to Spain, and have girls meet us there.
In June move Morpheus to Greece for PKP V(b) in July. Not sure what we do then - back to USA, or south toward CapeTown?

hey, that sounds like a lot of planning for someone who usually plans things 20 minutes ahead…
I like the plan. I had a similar one…probably skipping Bimini and the Turks but heading from Key West and onto Cuba and then BVI.

Hey, Mon,
OK. We really are f---ing up. Are we going to die old men and not do something like this? Our kids would call us fools. I think I am going to start a fund and get serious about things.
How about this: 2011…shake down cruise to the Mediterranean. We can tour the Riviera and meet everyone for a cruise/medical meeting in the Greek Isles or Croatia. We also got to do Turkey along the way….maybe, head into the Black Sea or Caspian Sea. Morocco is also over there. I am going to Marrakesh this fall..will do a little reconaissance.
I think 2012 or 2013 needs to be a 4-6 month deal through the Panama Canal and through the Pacific. We could end up in Australia via Galapagos, Hawaii, Figi, Tonga, and New Zealand. I guess we could split things up. My plans would be NOT to sail back east. I heard it is an awful sail east and I have no desire to sail further than Australia. It get dangerous in parts of Indonesia from what I hear….although it would be cool to head toward Vietnam and up to China….hmmm.
It really won't take too much money to do this…just some time off. We got the lodging with us. It just takes some b----s. Oh, yeah, last I checked we aren't getting any younger. I will be hacked off if I have to sit in the rocker on the porch and can't talk about a trip like this!!
Bored in WS,
Rick

In the words of Zoolander's Hansel, "You're talking loco... and I like it".
Earth to Rick: We ARE old, and our kids already call us fools, but you are right about one thing - we don't have to die in our porch rockers, atleast without doing something beyond the pale. something worthy of telling.
My questions are few - how do I contribute to the fund? And when do we sail?
For the Shakedown to the Med., spring or summer of 2011 is good for me - Jurgen's cruising book suggests Mar-May a good time to cross the Atlantic going east.
For the longer voyage in 2013 thru the Canal, the book recommends a late Fall departure
Let's do it.
Seriously,
P

I think May 2011 should be the target for the Med!
No funds needed…just occassional inspirations.

2 batches of gumbo made, frozen, ready to be stowed away in Morpheus' freezer. Soup next.
ReplyDeleteI just downloaded the new greatest hits of Prince so that we can have a few dance parties/gender confusion sessions when we get bored. Also, the thread of emails today confirms that you are all indeed idiots because there were about eight different spellings of Macrae's name.
ReplyDeleteAm I really supposed to feel safe when we can't even spell the names of our friends on the boat? Maybe everyone should get a free tutoring lesson from Katie before we leave.
I googled sailing for dummies and this blog came up... just kidding!
Good one, Cat.
ReplyDeleteBack when women were not allowed aboard ship, there was mucho macho gender confusion at sea. So The Prince thing should work fine.
Safe sailing!
ReplyDeleteTuesday is almost here!
ReplyDeleteBlogging away....
ReplyDeleteGetting excited about delivering the youngsters to Morpheus on Monday!
ReplyDeleteTo add to the Morpheus medical chest, I have:
ReplyDelete- Avelox (quinalone antibiotic)
- Kenalog (injectable steroid)
- Ventolin (short-acting inhaler)
- Symbicort (long-acting inhaler)
- ACE wraps, splints
Catherine - should I add some Chantix?!!
Hoave-to Soup (Beef Vegetable) done, tupper-weared, and frozen. Tracy is doing a Muffin medley. Starting on casserole next - any requests?
